The Truth:
Anorexia is NOT a diet, Bulimia in NOT a weight-loss plan. These are serious, potentially FATAL mental disorders. And they can be all to real for people suffering from them.
People with Anorexia feel like they don't have the voice to speak out about their inner pain and struggles, so they use their bodies--like a painter's canvas.
Only it backfires because people then focus on the victim's bodies and not their feelings.

Binge and Purge
Bulimia, like Anorexia, is a way to avoid painful feelings and emotions.
People with this illness may try to starve, but lose control and take in excessive amounts of food. They then attempt to get rid of their feeling by throwing up, exersing obsessively, or taking laxatives.
There is a very important metaphor in the binge and purge cycle that should not be ignored. There is a kind of intensity about the act of bulimia.
It is a violent one, a frenzied one, a frantic one.
It can be incredibly time-consuming and the addictive nature of the cycle can easily TAKE OVER a person's life.
Bulimic purging is destructive (to the body, the spirit, and the heart) and ultimately does NOT let out what the person intends to let out...
despite frequent purging, one continues to hold-in the emotions and thoughts that they are attempting to rid themselves of.

A Reality Check
Starving to death is not beautiful or poetic. It is an ugly, ugly death...and a painful one.
Starved bodies ache all the time. The skin bruises, the muscles cramp and deteriorate, the brain slurs and slows, the bowels stop working on their own, the bones splinter and hurt and break, the body is constantly weak but ceases to sleep restfully, the mouth dries, the eyes fog, and the heart flutters and beats painfully.
There can be many scary moments prior to death where the body feels so sick, like it is dying
(because it is).
One Last Comment
Chasing death.
The energy driven out of control, the goal being nothing.
What kind of goal is that? At the end of the day it's just you, pain, a painful body, and nothing.
No prize after all.
